The Basics of Contact

This eight week class series is a playful, curious, and focused exploration of the fundamental principles and perspectives of Contact Improvisation (CI) as interpreted and facilitated by Daniel Mollner. You will learn 5 basic elements helpful to following any point(s) of contact as well as safer structures and approaches for weight exchange. There will be helpful tips for going in and out of connection, how to begin and end a dance, and some of the fascinating history of this revolutionary, ever-evolving movement inquiry. Designed for those new or brand new to CI but open to all levels of experience. Daniel has been teaching Contact for over 20 years and is a passionate, professional movement educator and community builder.

Tuesday Night Contact Class and Jam

Each and every Tuesday night we feature Contact Improvisation at 1010 Center Street from 6 to 9pm! There are two parts to the evening:

• One hour class (6-7pm)  Each class is part of an eight week series. There is a new theme or focus for each series. You must sign up ahead of time and commit to attending at least 6 of the 8 classes (sorry,no drop-ins). Jam that follows is optional and included in the class series price ($160).
• Two hour jam (7-9pm)  Jam is open to anyone and begins immediately after the one hour class concludes. Jam price is $10 cash at the door only and there are no advance signups or tix available for jam.

Check the calendar or events section to see when the each series begins and ends. Remember that for the classes no drop-ins are possible. The jam portion of the evening is open to all levels of experience and you simply show up anytime after 7pm and pay cash at the door.

Contact Improvisation is an embodied exploration that can be done solo or with others. It explores movement, stillness, going in and out of touch, and shared weight shifting/exchange from barely perceptible to full body. It's up to each individual. You are always at choice! Follow your curiosity and pleasure while listening to and respecting the body-based cues (or verbal requests) of others. Please take 100% responsibility for your experience and your own health and safety.

Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. Please no jeans, belt buckles, wrist watches, bracelets, or other jewelry that can snag or poke. This is a consent-based space. Every BODY is unique. All are welcome, especially People of Color, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Same-Gender Loving People, seniors, and neurodiverse.
